Hiking Trails

There are numerous, well-marked and/or easy to follow hiking trails found throughout the Charlotte Coastal Region. Generally, the trails in the area are easy to moderate with some “rooty” sections. The great majority of trails, not surprisingly for a coastal region, hug the coastline providing views you will not find from a car. Trail distances vary with a number of these in the 5 to 10 kilometres (3 to 6 mile) range and typically taking 2 to 6 hours to complete. Shorter trails are found in and around some of the small towns and villages.

A number of trails are in the provincial parks at New River Beach (mainland), Herring Cove and Roosevelt Campobello International Park (Campobello Island) and the Anchorage (Grand Manan). Most trails loop back to a starting point and on Campobello one trail runs between the Herring Cove Provincial Park and the Roosevelt Campobello International Park. Grand Manan offers the most variety of trails in the Charlotte Coastal Region. Grand Manan has the longest trail in the region at approximately18 kilometres (11 miles), as well as a variety of shorter trails. Of course, most trails on the islands follow just above the rocky shorelines offering wonderful seascapes and cooling ocean breezes.
